Reasoning by Criteria

The type of reasoning that I thought was a little difficult to understand was reasoning by criteria. After doing additional research, I was able to fully understand the definition of this concept. Reasoning by criteria is when you come to a conclusion or premise that is backed up by certain information or facts that are related to the argument. In other words, you make your conclusion based on the given information that you have about the person or situation at hand. One example could be that your best friend loves sports and in particular football. You tried really hard to think of the perfect Christmas gift for him that he has not gotten before, but you cannot find anything. You rely on the information that you know about him (the fact that he likes sports especially football) in order to narrow down your options for possible gifts. After coming up with different ideas, you result to giving him an authentic jersey of his favorite player.

  1. I think this is a good post ramyad! The writing for your post I think is good clear writing, and it is consistent. I like the example you used because it greatly applies to the season. It is so difficult to find people presents sometimes, but when we think about the things that they are into, as you have pointed out as the criteria, we then to narrow it down to what we may be able to get that certain someone. Like you pointed out, we are reasoning with ourselves what would be the best gift to give to people by using reasoning by criteria.

  2. I also agree with Diamondkillr that you make a very good explanation of the reasoning by criteria. I think that with your explanation, people can definitely understand what it really is. At first when I read about it, I was a little confuse myself. I have to go online and find more examples for it to get a better understanding of what it is and how it works. Reasoning by criteria is a good skill to have. It is really important to have a good understanding of it, because I think that this kind of reasoning will help you make a good argument and understand what it need to construct a good argument in the future.

  3. I was browsing through the blogs and I think Reasoning By Criteria came up the most as the concept that most people had difficulty with. It was a little confusing, and I admit that I had to reread the link that was provided for us a couple times before it actually clicked in my head and made sense. If only I would have seen your post, because yours is so much easier to understand and makes it so much clearer. I think the example you provided is seriously perfect. I think that whoever had a problem with this concept would definitely have a better picture of what's going on if they read your post.
